Skin tone & under tone

Do you know your skin tone and undertone?! Many people don't actually know it, but it is very vital to do.
Your skin tone & undertone decides what color shades look good on you and flatter your skin ( whether makeup, clothes, or accessories.)
It is very simply to find out, all what you need is to follow a few steps. So lets begin!
First of all, you need to understand that skin tone & undertone are two very different things. Skin tone is your skin color, but skin undertone are the colors within your skin.

You first needs to ask yourself some question to find out your SKIN TONE!

Do I burn easily under the sun? If yes, then you have a Light (fair) skin tone.
Do I tanned then burn under the sun? If yes, then you have a Medium skin tone.
Finally, If you do not get burned or tanned under the sun, then you are have Deep or Dark skin tone.

(Please not that skin tones varies with races)
Light skin tone

Medium skin tone

Dark skin tone

After figuring out your skin tone, you need to find out your skin undertone too!
These are some of the methods to do so:

  • Wash your face with warm water (your face needs to be completely bare and clean of makeup)
  • After drying your face, make sure that you don't wear any kind moisturizer or creams.
  • Wait for 15 minutes to let your face be at its most natural state.
  • Check out your wrest vessels. If they tend to look bluish , your skins undertone is a cool color. If its closer to green then it is a warm color.
  • Bring a white paper ( it is better to be at a place where there is day light) hold the paper next to your face and compare your faces color comparing to the papers color. If your face looks yellow or kind of golden comparing to the paper, your undertone is a warm color. However, if your face color looks pinkish then it is a cool color.
  •  Try on two different bracelets, one of them silver, and the other golden. If the silver looks better on you, then you have a cool color. If not, then it is a warm color because golden colors looks more flattering to your skin.
  • People who have eyes that are blue, gray, or green and have blond, brown, or black hair have cool color undertone . Conversely, warm-toned women usually have brown, amber, or hazel eyes with strawberry blond, red, brown, or black hair.
NOTE: if you really cant tell whether you are a warm or cool  undertone and you are a mixture of both, then you are a neutral.

Here's a quiz that helps you to find out.

After knowing your under tone, you should know this too!!

Warm tones are usually yellow and golden.
Cool tones are usually pink and rose.

Now, after knowing your skin tone AND undertone, how do you find the foundation that suits your skin tone the most?

Well, some brands do label their products based on skin undertones but that's only a few!
For example, MAC is a brand that labels its foundation tones as the following:
N stands for neutral
C stands for cool
W stands for warm

If the foundation is not labeled in this way, then there are some words to look for!

Many makeup brands use these names for their products

IF this did not help you either, just look for the shades that you find best suiting you skin tone, pick two shades and try it to see which one works for you the best.

What about your clothes? Do you know what colors compliment warm or cool skin undertones?!
Here is the answer :)
